03-05-2018, Addis Ababa (Ethiopia): On May 2, 2018, the IGAD Special Envoy to South Sudan, Amb Ismael Wais, signed a Development Engagement Document (DED) with Amb. Mette Thygesen of the Royal Danish Embassy in Addis Ababa. The DED provides for a contribution of DKK 14 million from Denmark to the operations of the IGAD-SSO (IGAD South Sudan Office)/CTSAMM (Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring Mechanism).
It is shaped by the overall objective to contribute to the continued peace and state-building process in South Sudan by enabling CTSAMM to implement its mandate as stated in the 2017 Agreement on the Cessation of Hostilities (ACOH) and other subsequent agreements.
The IGAD Special Envoy to South Sudan, Amb. Ismail Wais, said: “This Development Engagement Document is a valid continuation of the relationship that IGAD and the Danish Government established some time ago. It is an important step forward because we now have resources available to further promote reporting on ACOH and achieve common goals of restoring peace in South Sudan.” He further thanked the Danish government for this important and timely support.
The Danish Ambassador, H.E, Mette Thygesen, said: “We are delighted to sign this Development Engagement Document which will enable IGAD/CTSAMM to create confidence and build trust for reporting on the ACOH and contribute to stability in South Sudan.”
It is anticipated that the engagement will focus on several areas including Transitional Security Arrangements (TSA) monitoring, meaningful engagement of non – political stakeholders to contribute to the efforts of the CTSAMM in enhancing and coordinating its monitoring activities for a better and quality reporting regarding the compliance of the parties to the agreement, and facilitation of strategic communication outreach activities.
